My book comes out next year…

Year…

What?

Thats the “fun" part of your querying, and seeking publishing journey. There are so many paths,  but the big standard one is where you brain sits in…waits… impatiently patient.

Get the agent, get the book in better shape, and then go for the big five. Fingers crossed indefinitely. Disappointment guaranteed and success like the lottery. Add in my books are queer? Already at the bottom of the list.

I sat in that place, my plan A set for a couple years. A couple years a drop in the bucket to what other authors have waited. My ADHD put self-publish at Plan Z and kept it there. I needed help, beyond the wonderful community I’d already made with indie authors. And I had no money for said help. Editors, designers, marketers, they all deserve compensation.

But the dream was relentless. Plan Z became plan S. On twitter someone posted a spreadsheet with all the indie publishers. I’d already considered one run by friends for my fanfic  scrubbed first book but they are inactive for now. But a fire lit back in me and I sent my second book query to a few targeted ones. That book felt more generally marketable and ready, so why not? Rejection assured like the sun rising so I sent it on and moved on.

Then Kelly from Rowan Prose Publishing contacted me and here I am…

Year…

During Pride, my queer romance will be on Amazon. At the end of the month my cover will be revealed.

It’s all going so slow and so fast at the same time. I promise I’m gonna talk about other things, but the shock of it all being real suddenly still rolls over me like a really fun wave at the beach you didn’t expect to be as strong. Scary at first but you stand up after to sends back into knee deep water.

And I’m gonna keep jumping in those waves and swimming out further and further. The morning is still light and grey and I got so much time now. All the ocean is mine.
